Orientation Day 1: Becoming NYC Foodies One Day at a Time
Newhouse in NYC orientation started this morning, and the highlights of day one were all food related. The students heard from Rachel Chang (Senior Editor at US Weekly, MNO ‘3), Melissa Goolnick (Integrated Account Director at Bon Appétit, MAG ’06) and Michelle Cohen (Manager Communications and Employee Relations at Macy’s, PR ’08) about their favorite cheap eats, must-follow food trucks and splurge-worthy spots. The three Newhouse alumnae also shared career advice and offered tips about making the most of their internships this fall.
Next up, the students hopped on the subway to Greenwich Village for a private pizza tour with Scott Weiner (TRF ’04) of Scott’s Pizza Tours. After taste-testing pies at three different spots (including a nutella pizza which was clearly the winner because: nutella), students had a new appreciation for pizza oven temperatures, CSR (cheese-to-sauce ratio) and what makes the perfect, crispy crust.
Thank you to the fantastic Newhouse alumni for making the first day of orientation so memorable!
